What EV Grants Are Available in Ireland?
There has never been a better time to buy an electric vehicle in Ireland than right now. There are many grants available to assist soon to be electric vehicle owners to help get them on the road. It’s important to note that this grant is only applicable to applicants who meet the eligibility and this eligibility depends on a number of factors.
There are two main grants available to Irish residents that they can avail of. The first one is the EV Charger grant.
Electric Vehicle (EV) Charger Grant
The government in conjunction with the SEAI have set up a grant incentive that allows EV owners to claim up to €600 off their EV charger. This is a fantastic way to save money on the installation of an EV charger and in some cases you can save up to 50% of the total price depending on what charger you choose.
In order to qualify for the grant you must meet the following criteria.
Privately own an electric vehicle or hybrid that is bought on or after 01/01/2018.
Owners must have off street parking and be positioned in a suitable location for an EV Charger installation.
Have a Meter Point Reference Number with which their home location will be authenticated during the consideration process of applying for the grant.
Not previously availed of any electric vehicle grants.
Not have already begun any work or installation of charger point.
If you wish to apply for this grant then you can follow the steps listed on the SEAI website here and apply directly through them.
Electric Vehicle Grant
Alongside the electric vehicle charger grant those who are looking to purchase a new electric vehicle can also benefit from the Electric Vehicle Grant through the SEAI too. There is a maxim grant allowance of up to €5000 off your brand new EV.
The total grant amount will depend on the overall value and cost of your new electric vehicle. See the table below for prices and grant amounts.
