EV Car Sales and Hybrid Sales - September 2022

Both EV car sales and hybrid sales have been increasing over the last number of months but have really started to gain more traction since the energy crisis which has caused fuel prices to rise dramatically with no end in sight as to when they might stabalise.

More and more Irish motorists are making the jump to electric cars because it’s cheaper, cleaner and more convenient than an internal combustion engine car.
To date there have been over 12,500 new electric cars registered this year in Ireland and that is just full electrics. That’s an 80% increase on last year's new registrations. There has also been an increase in hybrids too accounting for 30% of all new car sales in Ireland.

EV sales have effectively been more than doubling and dealerships are seeing a higher demand for EV car sales. Currently the Volkswagen ID4 is the most sought after EV car amongst the Irish market.

Although overall car sales are down for the year with the rise in the cost of living and inflation and a potential looming recession, those who need a new car are primarily seeing the logic in going with an EV and future proofing their costs of living.

The SIMI said that electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and hybrids continue to increase their market share, with a combined market share now of 40.41%.

This is great news for the EV world and hopefully these numbers continue to grow and for those who are looking to take control of their EV charging at home.
